And the NHL is Officially Back…
Written by Wille Beamen on April 30, 2010 – 4:00 PM -Finally. No matter what you think of the NHL, hockey is an incredible sport.
But thanks to a lockout, overexpansion, and a commissioner that couldn’t run FEMA, the league has had an unnecessarily difficult struggle for relevancy.
Fortunately for sports, the true drama always shines through. Last year’s playoff were amazing. The young stars in the league– Crosby, Ovi, and this year’s star Halek– have renewed interest.
So now the NHL is setting new records despite being on Versus between reruns of the Professional Bull Riders league and the duck hunting dog competition.
The biggest factor this year was the storybook ending for Olympic hockey. Sports just don’t get any better.
Or they couldn’t get any worse, after all…
“The benefits of going to the Olympics when you’re in Salt Lake City or Vancouver, to name two cities, are way different than if you’re in Japan, Italy or Russia…I’m not sure that that type of exposure warrants or overcomes the difficulties” — Gary “The Business Handicap” Bettman — October 2009
Sigh.

NBA Playoff Update
Written by ScottiePP7 on April 29, 2010 – 2:28 PM -I understand not many people like the NBA anymore, but I do and it’s my website so you will listen to every single word I have to say (or click away).
I am going to break this down by the series that are still going on and some comments on the teams that are left. I am going to aim to do this at least once a week during the playoffs.
Dallas vs. San Antonio
Everyone hates to watch San Antonio, I am pretty sure this is mainly because they were boring as hell in the 2003 NBA finals. I don’t disagree with that but they should be cut some slack for something that happened 7 years ago. The Spurs are semi-watchable these days thank to some young blood in the form of George Hill and a re-energized Manu Ginobili (the guy is swiping bats out of mid air this season!).
The Mavericks on the other hand were the hottest team going into the playoffs this year and have apparently refused to show up on some nights.
This series is always entertaining (at least to me) and I look for the Spurs to take this one, probably in 7.

Just How Good Does Shawn Marion Think Avatar Is?
Written by Wille Beamen on April 29, 2010 – 8:34 AM -Uh- oh. A blockbuster sci-fi thriller with game-changing special effects. But is it good enough to co-op as your nickname for eleven years?
Only time will tell.
Until then, I’m adding @Pandora31to our twitter.

The Finger Wag Has No Comment on Shawn Merriman’s Complex Race Relations
Written by Wille Beamen on April 28, 2010 – 9:33 PM -Well of course I have some comment…
But I don’t want to run afoul of Ice Tea. He already has strong feelings about “bulls^&$ mutha $%#$% fake gangsters” on the internet. [and WARNING: Strong Language too]
Remind me never to pay $45 for a ticket to Rock The Bells.
